Our first acquaintance with Geras Bay takes place from the higher. Calm sea water surrounded by numerous olive trees. It's a travelogue with prominent colors the light blue of the sea and the silver green of the olive grooves.
The Bay is characterized by a narrow opening towards Aegean Sea and in that way it gives the impression of a lake.
Also characteristic are the hot springs of the area, "Therma" springs that are established beside the seashore and only 400 meters away from our hotel.
Around the spring the archaeological findings give evidence that the therapeutic water has been used by man since ancient times. During the period of the Ottoman occupation these buildings had been renovated, fact proved by the internal decoration of the baths accordingly to the standards of the Turkish baths ( chamam ). Today they are open to public under the supervision of Mytilene's Municipality. The water's temperature is 39,5 C recommended for the therapy of various human diseases.
As we continue our travelogue around the area, we meet picturesque villages and coastal settlements that consist the Municipality of Evergetoula : Dipi, Pigadakia with the picturesque taverns, Kato Tritos with the Byzantine church of the Archangel, Perama with the old industrial buildings, Plakados and Paleokipos with traditional houses.
Afterwards we meet Messagros and Skopelos with picturesque squares decorated with marble fountains. The road southwards guides us to the seashore of Tarti.
The seashores of Evriaki, Tarti and Perama are ideal places for swimming and entertainment at the little fish taverns.
Lastly the visitor can travel by little boats from Kountouridia - a tiny fishers port - to the opposite coasts of the Bay.
